Everything about Jonah Gray screams success -movie-star good looks, expensive clothes, a Park Avenue penthouse, and a seven-figure income. A cutthroat, rainmaking New York city commercial real estate broker, Jonah craves opulence and power. He beds models, romps the globe on the weekends and sees the world as his for the taking. Jonah Gray has it all. Or at least he had it all. When a friend presents Jonah with the deal of a lifetime, Jonah jumps at the chance. All Jonah has to do is act quickly, invest half a billion dollars in prime NY office buildings, and collect a huge payoff. But this golden opportunity is anything but. Within days of signing on, Jonah is mysteriously thrust into the epicenter of an international and personal scandal. Forced to explore a whole new territory where he can trust no one, and where danger, death and deception lurk at every corner, Jonah will learn some painfully hard lessons about the quest for easy money. Closing this deal could mean losing everything.

Review :
Reviewing: The Deal by Adam Gittlin
Jonah Gray is the youngest member of a four member team at Platinum Commercial Building and Land (PCBL). Located at the Chrysler Center in New York City, the company handles commercial real estate in the city. They make a lot of money and do whatever it takes to get business done. Jonah Gray continues the family tradition in real estate and is very good at it. Much like the real life Donald Trump, the fictional Jonah Gray wants everyone to know it including the reader. His ego knows no bounds and absolutely anything can be done.

Because he has the reputation of being the man to go to and his contacts are everywhere, it isn't surprising that Andreu Zhamovsky contacts him one morning though it has been a couple of years since they last spoke. Business keeps both men busy with Andreu owning the controlling interest in Prevkos, one of the world's most important natural gas corporations and a key player on the Russian stock exchange. He and his family are old friends dating back...
Good thriller for the plane or beach -- but so much drug use
This would have been a five-star review, but the main character's obsession with drugs for the majority of the story really soured me on some of the writing quite a bit. The author can't help but reference drug use in what seems like almost every other chapter at times. If this reflects reality of the real estate deal profession, then kudos to the author for describing it in such detail because the narration is vivid in this respect. Otherwise, I found this to be a very entertaining read on my recent cruise. A light story with enough going on to keep you guessing, and I felt that the pace of the novel was excellent in terms of setup, action, and the characters themselves. I'm not usually a fan of novels like this done in the first person, but I think in this case it added quite a bit to the overall read. If you need something to pass a little time on a plane or a beach (or in my case, a cruise ship), give this a try.

I didn't like this
The first 60-75% of this was on how world of brokerage & real estate deals are made in New York. That & what name brand clothes they wear, what drugs they use & sex. After that we do get into some action but I did not find it riveting. At the end, I still did not know who did what or why they did it. Don't waste your time or money!
