I read several monthly automotive publications and this one is my favourite. The photography and layout are excellent. And the colloquial writing style is fresh and engaging. Kudos especially to Jamie Kitman and Georg Katcher, who both write for American publications as well.

I have been reading car magazine for over 25 years and is undoubtedly the best car magazine you can buy. Yes, they are not afraid to loose business calling a bad car for what really is. Although, they have a peculiar tendency of over praising Jaguars and Land Rovers (call it patriotism if you wish).

Every time a new Jaguar or Land Rover comes along they always rated as the new standard on its respective class. The funny thing is that after a while they ALWAYS realize what a big mistake they have made and quietly bury the English entries for what they really are: well designed pieces of junk.

Car is unlike any other auto magazine I've seen. Well written, interesting and useful. The photography is great as well. Most importantly, they seem to have no problem calling a bad vehicle what it is. Too many magazines write great reviews of what are, at best, average products. Perhaps they're afraid of losing advertising?

And reading of the miriad great cars, from cheap thrills to supercars, that you can't get here will bring tears to your eyes. Renault making a giant killer little Chevy Aveo-sized hatchback with 197 horsepower and 18-inch wheels? Yes, it happens over there.

It is simply SO much more than you see in any U.S. car mag. It's BIG, both physically and in content, and written with the kind of thorough evaluation and engrossing, you'd-swear-you-were-right-there-with-them prose above any other (including CAR, my pervious favorite).

What makes it so good? Three main things. First, the writers, of course, many of them springing from the former Performance Car magazine. That sad publication declined in just about every way over it's lifetime until, at the time of it's demise,...

This is my favourite car mag out there right now. It exceeds Car by miles in terms of writing quality. I only have to say one thing: It's cheaper to buy this at a local mega bookstore like Boarders than to buy this online. It costs $9.99/issue so a year would cost $120 plus tax. I thought getting a subscription should SAVE YOU MONEY, not make you PAY MORE!!!

Yes it is expensive, but it must be known that 1 page of Top Gear is more interesting than a whole issue of Car and Driver. Subscribing means paying more ($10.95 listed at bookstands) and getting each issue 2-3 weeks later. I used to subscribe, but I get them at Borders now.

Pretty good but not $15/issue

For those who love cars and would like to see how the other half lives, this is a great magazine. Highly focused on it's native British market, it makes for interesting and often amusing reading. If we had half the cars currently available in Europe/Great Britain, the big 3 would be gone.
However, a subscription price of nearly $15 per issue is flatly absurd. You can reliably pick this up each month at large book stores. It simply isn't worth that price.
