Review :
Loaded with helpful hints for the new dad
This is one of the few "Dummies" guide that isn't too hard to hold. It's the size of a normal book and not too thick. All the questions are answered in this guide, starting with the first news announcing impending Dadhood.

To make the book's contents easier to digest, here is the breakdown. The chapters are divided into five parts. The first part prepares the man for dadhood and talks about the changes he can expect. This goes for both planned and unplanned pregnancies.

The second part breaks up the pregnancy. Then each one is broken down further into trimesters. This part also covers the difficulty in getting pregnant, and some of the things to try in order to get pregnant.. A good note is seeing the changes in the pregnant mate during this phase of the pregnancy. The final stage here is planning the type of birth and finding the right birth practitioner.

Part III covers the birth, after birth, and care for the newborn. This also...
Comprehensive book on the practicalities of being a dad - not only during pregnancy and birth but also through college days
I am going to be a 2nd time father and I cannot say how grateful I am for this book as I had forgotten what it was like preparing for a newborn and going through the medical appointments and classes etc with my wife, and this book exactly reminds me that I have to be that support for my partner even though she is going to deliver a 2nd time around.

This book not only tells you what to prepare for a healthy baby, but also in case things don't turn out to be what you wish or expect to be. This is very very real for us because my wife is in the higher risk segment due to her age.

To sum up, this book has information on the pregnancy (pre-birth) and how your partner body is like at each trimester, what essentials to prepare for both the spouse and the newborn, as well as any children you already have, the during of delivery - such as cord cutting, during delivery and the post birth stuff such as breastfeeding, traveling with the baby etc. This also has a section on...
This book and a chill pill would be a perfect baby shower gift for the father-to-be ...
This is one book that should show up at every baby shower. I have yet to run into a father-to-be who knows much about babies. In fact, apart and aside from the “proud” aspect, most of them are fairly wide-eyed with varying degrees of fright. It’s rather funny in a way, but not really. This guide may not have a chill pill with it, but can do a lot to calm the old nerves.

If you take a close look at a lot of family pictures, Dad is oftentimes holding the newborn with an odd look on his face. The “What do I do now?” look is usually there. This book is essentially about the entire process of getting to that point. It starts right out with a welcome to fatherhood and a glimpse of each trimester. Are you going to take the plunge? There’s no time like the present one I always say.

Next up we sometimes find out that this getting pregnant isn’t always as easy as it seems. This chapter deals with those sad, but true facts...

Review :
Best Birthing/Labor book for MOM too!
I've delivered 7 children and am now pregnant with my 8th. WHERE WAS THIS BOOK WHEN I WAS PREGNANT WITH MY 1st?!?!? Everything the book said the mother would feel was RIGHT on!!! The title is deceiving because it says it is for a "Birth Partner". It would definitely be helpful to them, but I got this book for myself and found it even more educating then I expected.
I especially appreciated that it didn't seem to have a hidden agenda or preference. Having had hospital/epidural births and natural births myself, I can see the benefits of both as each birth is different. I never felt there was an anti-home birth or anti-hospital birth sentiment to it. It was information for BOTH of them.
My favorite part was the detailed What-is-Mom-going-to-feel during _______ stage of labor. Then there were suggestions on how to relieve that, etc.
I highly highly recommend this book. I have read many (SCADS!!!) of birthing books and this is my favorite so far.

My wife expected me to be the birth expert
As a first time dad i wanted to be very much the involved father from the first step. I had taken enough birth and baby caring classes to understand the basics for the new baby to baby. My wife and i wanted to do a (as much as possible) natural birth. This means no drugs and no surgery. Yo go girl! What really scared me was that from everyone i talked with, complications occur and you sometimes had to make a quick decision on limited knowledge on the spot.

This is where i think that Penny did a great job of breaking things down. She has a great background in natural births. So many tips for comforting the mother. Birthing is a marathon. After 20 hours watching my wife go through labor, i could still remember some tips to help her cope. It was great for someone needing to know how the last few hours of pregnancy and the first first hours of newborn life can be,

Thanks for making the book read more like a series of personal accounts vs. charts and studies...
Excellent book, terrible e-book
As a new dad with a now 7-month old son, this book helped me prepare for what my wife was going to go through and give me the tools and confidence to help her through everything she went through. I would recommend this book to all new fathers. HOWEVER, do not get the e-book. There are lots of tables and pictures that do not translate well into the smaller e-book format. Also, as a reference, this is much better used as a physical book.
