Review :
Good but one flaw
This is pretty good. The only complaint that I have is that the author does not posses a strong foundation in Fertility Awareness Method (FAM). She mentions several times that you are ovulating if you have physical signs of ovulation but does not go into detail. The only way to know if you are ovulating besides exquisitely timed ultrasound, is to track your basal body temperature to see a thermal shift. OPKs (pee sticks) only predict when your body is trying to ovulate, not that it has or will. When and if a woman ovulates is vital information from a functional medicine standpoint. I follow this author and do find her to be quite knowledgeable about reproductive health, but I can't give this book a full 5 stars. In women's health it is so important for women to understand and track their cycles. Just recording the days of your period is inadequate when troubleshooting cycle problems.
On to the good stuff (of which there is plenty); I love the way Dr. Briden makes it...
Tools and information every woman should have access to
What an eye opening read. I flew through this book in just a couple of days. Lara addresses women's health in a way that is REAL and accessible. I feel inspired to take the steps I need to now and after reading this book feel armed with the tools and information every woman should have access to.

Super smart and a great resource
This is a super smart, straight-talking, trouble shooting guide to solving all kinds of period problems without pharmaceuticals, from PMS to PCOS. It goes to show that we can heal symptoms of hormonal imbalance without having to use the side effect-laden birth control pill (which only masks the issue anyway).

It's truly a great resource to keep by your side whatever stage of life you're in, but it would be especially helpful to those wanting to make a smooth transition off the Pill.

Payed over 140 for this book for my kindle fire the title says it has class and shop manuals. But after downloading it on my kindle it only has class manual ya it help a little. For my class but I also need the shop manual to understand the lessons my insturctor is going over. So I don't recommend getting it because its a wast of money... very dissapointed amazon.

Mostly useless - buy the factory manuals instead
Anyone who thinks they'll be able to completely rebuild a Porsche 911 using this book (as the cover claims) is living in a world of make-believe. As the other reviewers have pointed out, the book glosses over any 911 made after 1977, and doesn't give any instruction on activities that the home mechanic might want to do, such as removing the airbox or changing the sparkplugs or filters. If you're serious about working on your 911, pony up the cash and buy the factory manuals. They're expensive, but worth the price you pay for them, especially if you factor in the money you're saving on labor costs. The Haynes manual is seriously out-of-date and useful only as an occasional reference.

Disappointing
I had always used Haynes Manuals to teach myself basice vehicle maintenance. This manual is an exception to their usual high quality.

Very misleading.
This would be a great book for anyone who is interested in actually rebuilding the alternater on a porsche 911 but is not the least bit interested in removing the said alternater. Same thing goes for the starter and everything else I needed the book for. I was sort of planning on taking the starter/alternater to a starter/alternater repair shop to have them rebuilt. The book spent three pages on exploded diagrams showing the inner workings of a starter and not even one photo of how to remove it. I've got news for most of you, unless you live in Stuttgart, there aren't many local starter shops that will work on a porsche 911....but once removed they're just simple bosche and motorolla parts and basically any shop will rebuild them for $30-$40. Everything i looked up was the same way...absolutely no photos of dissasembly...maybe that's on pupose...but I know for a fact I didn't purchase a book on rebuilding appliances this book has practically nothing to do with Porsche...

Rest assured, this is the latest printing
I just want to put to rest some of the previous concerns about this being an outdated issue. I'm a doctoral student, so having the latest version of this manual is paramount to the success of my program. That being said, I researched whether or not I should purchase this manual from Amazon, and almost didn't given some of the past negative reviews. I went with my instincts, however, trusting that a major retailer like Amazon would always offer the latest printing of a given text.

Needless to say, I was right in doing so.

I ordered this book February 27, 2012, and according to the inside of my copy, this is the fifth printing (January 2011) of this book. Rest assured that if you order from Amazon, you're getting the latest copy of a terrific resource and at the best price available.

Book: five stars...a terrific resource for anyone writing in the APA style.
Amazon experience: five stars...don't worry guys, you're getting the most recent...
Greatly Disappointed
I was very irritated to find that many errors existed in the 6th edition. I also contacted APA regarding the errors. They are not going to exchange the book for a corrected edition. They made several lame excuses for the errors and for not replacing it. My second email to APA pointedly expressed my displeasure with their stance - copied below...

To have grammar and writing errors in a book about grammar and writing is shameful. How much does your organization really care about the reputation it is presenting? Do you have editors reviewing your works before publication? Are your editors paying attention to their work? If you cannot hold yourself to the standards you have set out in your own publication, then your publications should not exist!

If you need this book, demand a corrected reprinting! If you are a university, you also demand a corrected reprint. This organization should not set standards they are not going to comply with. I give them an "F"...
BEWARE! Many pages of corrections have been issued!
I just received my copy. As a psychology professor, this text is required for my bookshelf--the same is true for students in this field. However, I was upset to learn that APA has already issued 7 typewritten pages of corrections to this manual, and they will not exchange the first printing for a newer print. This is a resource that you will use for years! Wait to purchase until the kinks have been ironed out and they are on a second or third printing of the manual! I am also disappointed that they do not clearly delineate the changes from the 5th edition. It looks to me that there are few important changes (2 spaces between sentences, etc.). Save your money for at least a few more months!

The more things change...
There are a few minor and almost no major changes in DSM-5 that the patients and professional need to be aware of.

1. The most remarkable structural change of the Fifth Edition is getting rid of 5-axial system. Good riddance!
The old classification grouped diagnoses down into independent dimensions called axes:
Axis I: all diagnoses except mental retardation and personality disorder
Axis II: personality disorders and mental retardation
Axis III: acute medical conditions
Axis IV: psychosocial and environmental factors making things worse
Axis V: Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF), or a number between 0 and 100 that reflects patients' well-being.
The new classification combines the axes together and let them rate the disorders by severity. In addition the NOS (not otherwise specified) label is changed to NED (not elsewhere defined).
2. The diagnosis Mental Retardation is changed to intellectual disability (intellectual...
Relax, it's not as awful as people fear- but it still is disappointing, and somewhat problematic.
Nearly all of the media criticisms of DSM-5 are fairly wide off the mark. The main critique is that psychiatry is trying to pathologize increasing amounts of normal human behavior with the DSM-5. The new diagnoses in DSM-5 are modest, evidence-based, and are ways of better describing the types of problems that people come into psychiatrists' and psychologists' offices asking for help with.
For example, the diagnosis of Body Dysmorphic Disorder makes a distinction from "dysmorphic concern" (which is largely normative) and requires that the preoccupation interferes with social or occupational functioning, or causes clinically significant distress. That means: it is already a problem for the person, whether or not anyone makes it a diagnosis.

The main problem with the manual is actually that the changes were not bold enough, not forward thinking enough, and have resulted in very few improvements considering the huge amount of effort put into the enterprise...
The Next Phase of the DSM Evolution is Here
Ok, I have taken some time to actually read through DSM 5. While DSM has often been scrutinized--both for what it includes, as well as what it doesn't--the back-lash against the newest edition has been particularly pronounced these past few months. Part of this stems from the micro-analysis that happens with many things in our modern world, though we have to admit that ego, resentment, and a misunderstanding of the process also plays a part. In addition, historical debate over DSM typically took place in-house; that is, by clinicians. With DSM 5, this has broadened to people who have little- to no understanding of the diagnostic process, its purpose, and its strengths/limitations. Thus, there has been a lot of negative press about DSM 5 in Huffington Post, NY Times, and other sources, often by people with practically no understanding of mental health.

Why 5 stars, you might ask? Because my review is based on DSM 5 as a book, not anything else having to do with DSM as a...
