Review :
Make Peace with Food
"Obsessing about food and my body kept me from living my life." ~ pg. 7

In "Reclaiming Yourself from Binge Eating," Leora Fulvio comes across as a very loving, thoughtful author. She truly wants to help anyone who struggles with binge eating due to a variety of causes.

This book will help you realize why you would binge eat in the first place. Many times it has to do with childhood issues. In fact I know two people who are binge eaters and both of them had food taken away or restricted when they were children. Some of the other issues explained in the book reveal that some people also try to get rid of negative feelings by eating a lot. So whatever your issue is it is probably discussed in this book.

Some of the very helpful advice in this book includes the section on clearing foods that are trigger foods from your house. There is also a list of 101 things to do instead of binging. There is also information on how to stop unhealthy thought patterns...
And Leora Fulvio explains that healing from a binge eating disorder is like breaking up with a boyfriend with whom you've had ..
"Breaking Up is Hard to Do," declares that old rock 'n' roll song. And Leora Fulvio explains that healing from a binge eating disorder is like breaking up with a boyfriend with whom you've had a dysfunctional relationship. She describes binge eating as if you were enmeshed with "Ed" (your eating disorder) who pretends to care about you but, as in all abusive relationships, is out to see you suffer. Recovery from binge eating is about separating from the tyranny of Ed and learning to live in peace and harmony with your food, your body, yourself.

In Reclaiming Yourself from Binge Eating: A Step-By-Step Guide to Healing, Ms. Fulvio, a marriage and family therapist, helps you negotiate your break up with binge eating and invites you to reflect on 34 steps that impart knowledge, hope, and guidance for recovery.

These 34 chapters include an exploration plus an assignment and cover topics such as: Balancing Self-Acceptance with the Need to Change;...
This is not a book about binge-eating
This is a book about finding out why you binge-eat, and how you can break the cycle and get control of your life.

Leora Fulvio writes from a very personal place describing her own struggles with food and emphasizes the fact that you are not alone in your struggle - millions of people also have the same issues. The good news is that many of them have also freed themselves from the cycle and so can you.

If you are looking for a "5 ways to stop binge-eating NOW" type book, this isn't it. This books requires some emotional work on the part of the reader, but the author has thought very carefully about the setbacks and pitfalls along the way, and has given a lot of advice about what to do in challenging social situations and what to do when you just want to give up.

The advice in the book is oriented specifically towards binge-eating, but her advice is so universal I think it can be applied to a lot of compulsive, unhealthy behaviors. The parts I...
